- Where is the Writing Center?
The Writing Center is located in the basement of the Beeghly Library.
- When is the Writing Center open?
The Writing Center is open Sunday through Thursday, from 7-10 p.m and by scheduled appointments.
- What if I can't attend during the scheduled hours?
If you can't attend during scheduled hours you can make an appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact Carol Peters. She will coordinate an appointment to meet with a tutor during an available time.
- Who works at the Writing Center?
All tutors are current Juniata College students with varying POEs. If you would like to learn more about the tutors you can view their profile on the tutors page.
- What should I bring?
Bring two printed copies of your paper and a copy of your assignment sheet. Don't worry if your paper is incomplete or your grammar is imperfect, the Writing Center tutors are experienced at helping people develop and refine their ideas.
- Why should I choose the Writing Center?
The better question is, why not choose the Writing Center? Writing Center tutors are trained to help you with any writing assignment. With a wide variety of POEs, it's likely that one of the tutors will have specific experience writing for the class in question.
- How can I become a Writing Center tutor?
The first step is to take EN-145 Peer Tutor Training, a one credit course available during the spring semester. This course is required for peer tutors and covers communication skills, tutoring techniques, and student learning styles. For more information, contact Carol Peters (petersca@juniata.edu).
Additionally, The Writing Center was completely renovated in the summer of 2004. With the aid of a grant from the Library Service and Technology Act, we were able to purchase all new computers. While the Writing Center is not a place to read your email or surf the web, students may revise their paper on our computers after a tutoring session.
